Tully is one of the sugar capitals of Australia, the Tully Heritage Trail showcases this iconic towns’ rich and diverse history. The early pioneers planted the first cane in the Tully District during the 1860s and ‘70s. Tully is known as a historic town, famous for its sugar production, natural attractions and, of course, the Tully Gum Boot!
One thing you can’t miss is the Tully Heritage Trail. The trail begins at the Tully Visitor and Heritage Centre on the Bruce Highway, where you can obtain a map to embark on the self-guided tour. The Trail has 20 themed storyboards around the town area that provide interesting information on the early pioneers, the development of the banana and sugar industries, local indigenous culture, UFO sightings and many more stories.
The trail is easily done by foot make sure you wear good walking shoes, but you may consider driving from site to site if you wish. Make sure you stop for a coffee and a slice of cake on the tour to support the local businesses!
